Recently retired Caney City Administrator Kelley Zellner has passed away. The passing was confirmed by the city of Caney on its website yesterday afternoon. Before serving at Caney, Zellner was the city manager at Fort Scott, a city administrator at Fredonia, Public Works Director at Valley Center and Police Chief in Conway Springs. No funeral arrangements have been released.

The Caney Valley Bullpups make the eighty four mile trip to Bluestem tonight to take on the Lions in doubleheader basketball action. The Lions will be playing their second game in two days; the Lady Lions defeated West Elk 41-32 last night, while the boys fell to the Patriots 48-6. The Lady Pups look to end a two game losing skid, while the guy look to extend their winning streak to three. Pre-game begins around 5:50 with the girls game at 6:00 on Greatest Hits 104.1.

Efforts are switching from a rescue mission to a recovery operation in the plane crash involving American Airlines Flight 5342. Sixty four people were aboard the plane and three were in the Army helicopter, as the two collided near Reagan Washington National Airport. Both the plane and the helicopter landed in the Potomac River. Washington Fire Department Chief John Donnelly says 28 bodies have been found so far.

A former teacher in Carl Junction, Missouri, has been arrested on charges of possession of child pornography and stalking. According to Carl Junction Police Chief Mark McCall, former junior high vocal music teacher Craig Smith was arrested as a result of an investigation into inappropriate behavior toward a student. Numerous child pornography images were allegedly found on Smith's personal and school-issued electronic devices.

An Oklahoma Representative files legislation to provide a sales tax exemption to certain nonprofits. Marilyn Stark of Bethany has again filed House Bill 1171, which would provide a sales tax exemption to nonprofit organizations with $3 million or less in annual gross revenue. Alcohol and tobacco purchases would not be considered exempt purchases. Stark says the dollar, whether donated or provided through a grant, doesn't have the same buying power it did five years ago.
