2025 seems to be the year that many photography gear manufacturers seem to be blooming and putting on the most beautiful spring display for all real photographers to enjoy. We haven’t seen a zoom fisheye lens come to market since the 2011 Canon 8-15mm f4 Fisheye zoom. But that was for DSLRs — and this was designed for mirrorless. The brand new Laowa 8-15mm f2.8 FF is in many ways, the faint alluring scent of the spring flowers, but without all the pollen.

I remember nearly 20 years ago, photographers worked with manufacturers on marketing campaigns about being in love with their cameras. And more importantly, they also spoke to the idea of there being a romance with them. Well, the truth is that they often end up just being long term flings until something newer and better comes around. If you’ve paid attention to the way that people talk about relationships, then this will all sound too familiar.

With the world being what it is, we’ve been looking at older and retro cameras for inspiration in the same way that people have searched for it before. Many modern cameras make photography very easy, so much so that we don’t often need to think all that much anymore. And if we don’t need to think anymore, then why have us at all? Well, that’s the concern of so many photographers. Thankfully, DSLRs like the older Canon 5D Mk II are still very capable.

Today, Adobe is announcing that Photoshop for Android is now in beta, and is free. Similar to what the company did with iOS devices a while back, the mobile application is now free with a bunch of options being accessible if you pay for them. These incldue a lot of the generative AI options and much more. Here are the details from the press release. Android users can access all the app’s features for free during the initial beta period, with additional capabilities comingsoon.

This year, the Fujifilm X Pro 1 (nicknamed the Fuji X Pro 1) will be quite an old mirrorless camera. In fact, we reviewed it back in 2012. And by that mentality, it turns it into one of those retro-style mirrorless cameras. By some cultures, it’s considered an adult — at least if it had a beating heart. But instead, the camera has a soul to it that still can’t be quite captured with today’s devices. In many ways, the older Fujifilm cameras are better devices for photographers.
