    Amazon says it will shut its Amazon App Store for Android devices in August. The third-party App Store will cease operating on August 20 this year, it says. Amazon told developers it would also discontinue its Coins digital currency on August 20. Customers use Coins to buy apps and games from the Amazon App Store. Customers still with Coins on August 20 will be given a refund, the company says.

Visual Intelligence is a package of additions you can access by clicking and holding the camera control button. The BBC reports that Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson are stepping down and Amazon MGM Studios is taking control of the Bond venture. Amazon, Broccoli and Wilson have announced a joint venture to manage the intellectual property rights with Amazon gaining creative control.

But two established formats for home entertainment are in peril. FlatPanelsHD reports that disc sales over the same period have dropped below US$1 billion. The figures were produced by the Digital Entertainment Group (DEG) and market research firm Omdia.
