The Knicks’ season ended with a thud Saturday night as they suffered a blowout loss to the Indiana Pacers in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Finals. The 125-108 defeat ended what had been a wild run through the NBA Playoffs for Tom Thibodeau’s team, which went 51-31 during the regular season to earn the No. 3 seed in the conference. The Knicks beat the Detroit Pistons in the first round, upset the defending champion Boston Celtics in the second, then fell to the NBA Finals-bound Pacers.

Game 6 between the Knicks and Pacers reflected exactly what was at stake for both teams. The Knicks were fighting to keep their season alive. The Pacers were fighting to put the Knicks away and advance to the NBA Finals. From the opening tip the game was fast paced, intense, physical. There were bodies hitting the floor for loose balls, tough fouls, big defensive stops. But in the end, it was the Pacers who won out.

NEW YORK – The vibe inside Madison Square Garden in the hours before Game 5 Thursday night felt far different than it did the previous two games here in this series. The Knicks needed a win to stave off elimination and keep their season alive. The atmosphere was one of nervous anticipation, not quite as raucous or energetic as usual. Then the game began and the Knicks got things back to normal.

The Big Ten announced on Thursday that Rutgers football’s conference home opener has been moved. The Scarlet Knights will play Iowa on Friday, Sept. 19 at 8 p.m. at SHI Stadium for their first Big Ten game of the season. The game will be televised nationally on FOX. It’s the second-consecutive season Greg Schiano’s team has opened up Big Ten play on a Friday night – the Scarlet Knights beat Washington under the lights last season.

They couldn’t keep up with the Pacers and lost 130-121 in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis on May 27. Indiana now leads the series 3-1.
