    UK mobile developer Tripledot has agreed to acquire AppLovin's video game portfolio and studio network for $800 million. The deal will see Tripledot acquire 10 studios to significantly expand its operations in key markets including the United States and Asia. Tripledot currently operates a range of live titles including Woodoku, Nut Sort, and Triple Tile. Following the deal Tripledot will own 12 studios across 23 cities and boast a mobile portfolio that serves over 25 million daily active users.

    Nintendo believes the Switch 2 will sell 15 million units worldwide during the current fiscal year. The company shared the sales forecast in its fiscal report for the year ended March 31, 2025. It expects Switch 2 software sales to total 45 million units over the same period. The original Switch sold almost 18 million units worldwide in its first year on shelves. The device launched on March 3, 2017, and had sold 2.74 million units by the end of the month.

    Starbreeze has agreed to fully acquire the publishing rights for Payday 3 from Plaion to "pursue broader strategic opportunities" for the embattled franchise. Payday 3 sales decreased dramatically during the last fiscal year—tumbling to $7.7 million in FY2024 from $44.5 million in FY2023. Starbreeze conceded the title was massively underperforming within months of its September 2023 launch, and embarked upon a rehabilitation program it claims is now well underway.

    Xbox maker Microsoft has become a vocal proponent of generative AI in recent years, but it seems the company hasn't rolled out a hard mandate across its internal studios. According to the head of Compulsion Games, the studio behind South of Midnight, its parent company has not mandated it make the most of AI tools. Like so many others in the game industry, Microsoft has built and deployed a number of AI powered design tools and models it says will bolster video game production.
