Amid the sea of white and maroon jerseys, Koi Perich stood out like a sore thumb at the Gophers spring practice session. They hope he’ll stand out this fall, as well. Perich was wearing a sewn-together practice jersey – half maroon, half white – as he worked with both the offensive and defensive units.

The Gophers men’s track and field team moved up a notch to #2 in the latest NCAA rankings, and sophomore long jumper Charle Godfred is ranked #1. Godfred’s jump of 8.01m at the South Florida Invitational in March stands as the best jump in the nation this spring. He also holds the Gophers record of 26’10.5″. He was the Big Ten champion and a First Team All-American last season after arriving on campus in January. He finished sixth in the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Godfred also runs the 100m.

With four games to play, the Minnesota Wild currently hold the Western Conference’s last playoff spot. They have two very good chances to secure their position – if not improve it – this week. The Wild host last-placed San Jose Wednesday then head to Calgary – who are right behind them in the standings – on Friday.
