Skip navigation Pakistan endures dangerous levels of air pollution, with approximately 235 000 premature deaths annually due to exposure of both particulate matter (PM2.5) and ozone. Having initiated multiple air quality improvement programs already, in 2023 the Government of Pakistan approved the Pakistan Clean Air Policy (PCAP). The policy was informed by an air pollution and climate change mitigation assessment.

Skip navigation Developing more precise estimation methods for future health burden metrics is crucial to understanding how the health of future populations will evolve. The authors of this paper developed and applied a demographic model for calculating future health burdens from PM2.5 exposure rather than using exogenous projections of future population and mortality rates.

Skip navigation Exposure to outdoor air pollution causes ~10 000 premature deaths each year in Lao PDR. Annually, concentrations of fine particulate matter (PM2.5) in the country are four times higher than the World Health Organization’s recommended guidelines. Due to the extensive use of biomass cooking fuels in the country indoor air quality is also a source of concern, causing ~6000 premature deaths a year.
