In the aftermath of a season-ending loss, any season-ending loss, certain questions are expected. Do you believe in this team moving forward? Reporters invariably are interested in how star players see the outlook of the team. Do you believe in the coach? This one can take different forms—What did you think of the job [insert coach name] did this season? is an oft-used entry point—but the questions come, especially if the coach is an embattled one.

Each time Karl-Anthony Towns flexed his left knee he hoped not to feel it, that the hurt would magically go away. A collision with Aaron Nesmith in the final minutes of the Knicks’ Game 4 loss to the Pacers left Towns with a deep bruise so painful that hours before Thursday’s elimination game, Tom Thibodeau declared Towns a “game-time decision.” Beating Indiana with Towns had already proven difficult. Beating it without him would be impossible. Towns didn’t just play in Game 5. He was brilliant.

In the aftermath of the Pacers' collapse in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference finals, Tyrese Haliburton told his team: This one is on me. Said Haliburton, "I got to do a better job."Haliburton did, and the result is Indiana is one win from the NBA Finals.

Garcia, 26, is expected to be able to resume training in six weeks.

INDIANAPOLIS — What if I told you in a must win Game 3 of the Eastern Conference finals the New York Knicks would use a starting lineup they had not used all season? Or a three-man lineup that had never played a minute together? Or that they would rally to win a game with Jalen Brunson playing less than three minutes in the fourth quarter? Well, they did. Knicks 106, Pacers 100. We have got ourselves a series. The Knicks had no business winning this game. Seriously—none.
