Measuring Emissions Emissions can be measured from two points in time: dating back to 1850, after the Industrial Revolution when emissions broke away from historical patterns, or a date closer to when the threat of climate change became better understood, perhaps around 1990, when the first International Panel on Climate Change assessment was published. In addition to when emissions occurred, a country’s population size also needs to be considered.

In April 2024, China released the draft of its amended Atomic Energy Law, nearly seven years after initial discussions began. The law will serve as the guiding document for the regulation of nuclear power, including research and development of the nascent nuclear fusion industry. In the past year, the Chinese government included nuclear fusion development in its annual government work reports for the first time.

En abril, el conglomerado estatal de petróleo y gas PetroChina desarrolló un programa piloto para un nuevo gasoducto de 397 km en Ningxia, en el centro-norte de China, para transportar hidrógeno mezclado con gas natural. Las nuevas tecnologías y materiales que contiene minimizan la pérdida de hidrógeno y elevan el umbral de participación del hidrógeno de menos del 20% al 24%. Tras varios meses de pruebas de diseño, se espera que el gasoducto esté operativo a finales de este año.

New technologies and materials in it minimise hydrogen loss and raise the threshold of hydrogen’s share from under 20 per cent to 24 per cent. After several months of design testing, the pipeline is expected to be operational by the end of this year.
