Sunday night, Derik Queen propelled the University of Maryland into the Sweet 16 with his buzzer beater vs. Colorado State. That was fun. There was elation in the moment. Had Queen’s shot gone awry, it would have been pretty disappointing. Give Colorado State all the credit they deserve; they played hard, and largely controlled the game. It was a typical NCAA Tournament game, where you can see the favored team is getting tight, and the underdog is reveling in the moment.

The Orioles begin their 2025 season Thursday in Toronto. As the year begins, I think the O’s are the best team in the East, and probably the best team in the AL. I think they go 92-70, and steadily look increasingly more formidable as the year progresses. I’m not worried about Henderson starting the year on the IL. The O’s are just being cautious with their best player. I’m not worried about Bautista’s ‘health’, but I think his performance may be a bit up and down at-least the first few months.

The Baltimore Ravens 2024 season ended last night in Buffalo, with the Bills winning 27-25. If I’m particularly irritated at anything Ravens related today; it’s thinking back to their early season losses vs. Las Vegas and Cleveland. Those were two games the Ravens had no business losing. Win those games, and last night’s game is in Baltimore, and not Buffalo. The Bills are a quality team. I think the Ravens have a stronger roster overall, but the gap is not tremendous.

Sometimes non-sports fans will ask me what holds my interest in these silly little games. My typical response is that sports provides the best drama you can find. There are always so many storylines which come up over the course of a season, and then are further intertwined with extended history. Tomorrow night’s Wild Card game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens is just another great example of the drama really only sports can provide.
