The Rangers are coming – again. This time Celtic fans shouldn’t be sniggering at the suggestion. And what is going on over at Ibrox cannot be ignored by those in charge at Parkhead. It would be foolish to put the head in the sand when it comes to the challenge coming from across the city. But it doesn’t necessarily have to be a bad thing for Celtic. In fact, Rangers finally getting their act together might be the best thing that can happen to them. Just like last week’s Scottish Cup Final.

The current Celtic manager is going for another Treble but the last one to do it is entitled to stick up two fingers to his critics. I didn’t have a dog in the fight at the Europa League Final the other night, but I must admit I was delighted for Ange Postecoglou to win the trophy with Spurs. He was absolutely entitled to give it the big up yours to everyone afterwards given some of the shameful abuse he’s taken this season. Postecoglou hasn’t just been criticised – he’s been ridiculed.

Manchester United's grand plans for a lavish summer revamp have been vastly altered by their failure to qualify for next season's Champions League. Defeat by Premier League rivals Tottenham - who will line up among Europe's elite in their stead - leaves the Red Devils' hierarchy with a headache even the strongest migraine medication would fail to address. The club, once a leader on and off the field, is a shadow of its former self, with a mountain of issues in dire need of attention.

There was a fair bit of excitement when the name Ancelotti popped up in connection with the Rangers job. It was dampened a tad when it turned out not to be legendary manager Carlo, but his son, Davide. It was still a very interesting link, although it did bring back memories of when Rangers wanted to appoint Michael Beale as boss – but they got Ian Beale instead.

Most people can be forgiven for drifting off in the second half of last weekend’s Rangers v Celtic clash at Ibrox. Let’s be brutally honest. It was a bit of a non event. I said going in it was a dead rubber derby but both sides did their best to prove me right. It got to a point when neither team fancied a bloodbath so settled for honours even to park the hostilities until next season.

Well done Tony on a brilliant career 👏👏👏

The full-time whistle. A 50yr journey - from cub reporter to an extraordinary UCL Final and now retirement. Thanks to Don Goodman for being there last night - and countless others for their company, help, guidance and friendship along the way. Brilliant memories. https://t.co/442bu7rR5e
