The Senate should have rejected Pete Hegseth’s nomination for defense secretary. This man lives secret lives. He’s acknowledged five affairs during his first marriage. We know of at least one in his second marriage, with the woman who is now his wife, and we also know of what he calls a consensual encounter that occurred with another woman behind his current wife’s back. I can only wonder how many other affairs or consensual encounters haven’t been disclosed or might still be going on.

We think this unusual defensive strategy could offer short-cuts in the race to develop antimicrobial treatments. More than 1.2 million people worldwide are killed by drug-resistant bacteria each year. Antibiotics are used to treat serious bacterial infections.

Gov. Bill Lee recently signed into law Public Chapter 950, which creates significant changes in how Tennessee's franchise tax is calculated. Until now, the franchise tax has been calculated based on 1) a taxpayer's "apportioned net worth" or 2) the "actual value" of the taxpayer's real or tangible property owned or used in Tennessee (the Alternative Measure), whichever was greater.
