RESCUE TEAMS WITH sniffer dogs combed the crash site today of the London-bound passenger jet which ploughed into a residential area of India’s Ahmedabad city, killing at least 265 people on board and on the ground. One man aboard the Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner – carrying 242 passengers and crew – miraculously survived yesterday’s fiery crash, which left the tailpiece of the aircraft jutting out of the second floor of a hostel for medical staff from a nearby hospital.

PSNI OFFICERS CAME under attack for a fourth consecutive night in Northern Ireland as disorder spread through multiple towns on Thursday. Missiles were thrown at officers after a protest in Portadown yesterday, continuing a trend that was sparked earlier in the week in Ballymena. It came after Northern Ireland’s police chief warned “bigots and racists” behind earlier nights of unrest in the region that his officers will be coming after them.

ISRAEL ATTACKED IRAN’S capital Tehran early this morning in strikes which targeted the country’s nuclear programme and Iran in turn has launched about 100 drones towards Israel. Israel’s military said it is working to intercept the drones launched from Iran. It has raised the potential for an all-out war between the two bitter Middle East adversaries and appears to be the most significant attack Iran has faced since its 1980s war with Iraq, with multiple sites around the country hit.

TAOISEACH MICHEÁL MARTIN has defended appearing on Ryan Tubridy’s podcast, stating that he will not join in on any “witch-hunt” of any individual. His comments come as RTÉ Director General Kevin Bakhurst told an Oireachtas committee today that Tubridy has not repaid RTÉ the €150,000 he received for two promotional events that did not take place.

JUSTICE MINISTER JIM O’Callaghan is to bring forward proposals to purchase the Citywest Hotel in Dublin for asylum-seeker accommodation. The minister got Cabinet approval today to extend the use of the hotel for international protection and Ukrainian applicants for another three months, until the start of September. This will cost an estimated €17 million to cover lease of the facilities and the provision of services.
