Caufield's Novelty hosted a free shopping spree for about a dozen foster children in Kentucky, offering them a chance to pick out costumes and accessories. "This is a super exciting part of the work that we do. Having the kids be able to come here and go on their first shopping spree for Halloween is really awesome," said Shawnte West from the Department for Community Based Services (DCBS).

Tickets are still available for this year’s Gallop for the Gift, a special fundraising event benefiting local adoptive families. Through donations, Kentucky’s chapter of Gift of Adoption has helped connect more than 119 children with forever families. This year’s featured family includes an energetic 4-year-old, Wiatt Clark. Wiatt’s parents, Mary Beth and Carl Clark, began exploring adoption in 2018.

Tamya, 12, would love to find the right adoptive family for her and possibly her younger brother, too. “I love cooking, I’m smart, I am caring, I love to clean, and I love having friends,” she said. Tamya enjoys her friends, but her favorite person to spend time with is her younger brother. “I see him sometimes but it depends on what’s going on that particular moment,” she explained. And for Ajay, 11, the feeling is mutual.
