Allegheny County Executive Sara Innamorato on Wednesday extended the county’s disaster emergency declaration for 30 days as clean-up and recovery efforts continue following last week’s violent storm. The original order, signed last Wednesday, was set to expire after seven days. The extension — which allows the county to skip normal procedures and move resources quickly to towns still assessing damage and clearing debris — will remain in place until June 6.

The 2025 DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon is set to kick off this weekend, with events taking place Friday through Sunday. According to marathon organizer P3R, more than 46,000 participants from all 50 states and 24 countries are expected to take part in this.

A severe thunderstorm rolled through Western Pennsylvania early Tuesday evening that the Allegheny County Medical Examiner said contributed to the deaths of at least two individuals and left downed power lines, damaged roofs and felled trees across the region. As of 8:30 a.m. Wednesday morning, Duquesne Light Company reported more than 195,000 customers without power in Allegheny County, as well as more than 13,000 outages in Beaver County. Acrisure Stadium has been selected by the Federal Emergency Management Agency to become a potential shelter and command center during emergencies and disasters. The home of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pitt Panthers is one of four NFL stadiums that have been designated as “Mission Ready Venues.” The designation means the facility would be prepared to serve as a staging ground for response and recovery activities during large-scale disasters or emergencies, such as a pandemic, a flood or tornado.
