(WTWO/WAWV)- The mother of murder suspect William Grimes took the stand for the defense and said her son was “cutting wood at Bobby’s house” all night long on the night 85-year-old Lowell Badger was killed. Nancy Pirtle testified Tuesday morning in a Sullivan County courtroom. She said her son William lived with her when Badger was killed in 2012. She testified that Grimes had to cut up a fallen tree and used her truck on Friday, Dec. 7, 2012.

Sullivan, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – “Please don’t hurt me. Take what you want” were among the last words said by retired farmer Lowell Bagder before he was shot in the head. That’s according to testimony from a co-defendant at the murder trial of William Grimes. Richard Taft is one of three men charged in the death of the 85-year-old in December 2012. He testified Monday that he saw Grimes struggle with Badger, punching Badger in the head and stomach.

SULLIVAN COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The fourth day of testimony in the William Ray Grimes murder trial resumed Thursday morning with key witnesses and tense courtroom moments. Coroner Dr. Roland Kohr detailed autopsy findings, including bullet entry and exit wounds on retired farmer Lowell Badger. One witness testified that he saw Grimes briefly with another man the evening of the murder at a home in Merom, Indiana, where the witness admitted to underage drinking that night.

SULLIVAN, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— After 6 years, the Sullivan County Humane Society reunited a dog to its family. Gunner was found running loose a few days ago in Hymera. A resident had brought him to the shelter and had him scanned for a microchip. Turns out, Gunner was chipped to a family that lives in Waveland, Indiana. Wednesday evening, the family picked him up to take him back home. President of the Board, Julie Tow, said if he wasn’t microchipped, he most likely wouldn’t of made it back home.

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— The east side of Terre Haute is continuing its pattern of economic growth with the addition of several new businesses coming in the near future. Terre Haute Mayor Brandon Sakbun confirmed to WTWO that 7 Brew coffee, Jimmy Johns, Azzip Pizza, and a Quik Trip gas station. 7 Brew, a coffee shop chain, will be located next to the Aldi and has already begun construction. Azzip Pizza will go in the strip mall alongside the Chipotle WTWO previously reported.
