    It was the fall of 2019, B.C (Before Covid) in Bologna, Italy. We lived in a quaint one-bedroom flat in the quiet residential area of Costa Saragozza.     The epicenter is the city of Perpignan. This area is a wine-lovers paradise and was once part of Catalonia, Spain. This boutique region is known for the native varieties Grenache (Noir, Blanc, and Gris), Mourvèdre, Syrah, and Carignan—these result in excellent, robust still white, rosé and red wines. The region also produces Vin Doux Naturel (VDN for short), an excellent fortified wine-like port, available in still and oxidized versions.

    Perched on a hill overlooking Conwy and Llandudno Junction, a towering structure stands proud. The Bryn Pydew Obelisk, visible from both the A55 and the A470, is actually not an ancient Welsh monument but a relatively recent addition to the landscape. Constructed in 1992 on the grounds of Bodysgallen Hall Hotel at Ffrith Hill, this modern folly was not built to commemorate any particular event. Instead, it was designed to echo similar monuments, such as Cleopatra's Needle in London.
