Billy Haggarty, 74, is a fifth Mejin and tenth Dan and still actively trains and leads Inverclyde shoto budo clubs across the area. At a residential training course at the SportScotland National Training Centre in Largs, Billy was awarded the honorary title of 'Hanshi'. Shoto budo is a martial art based primarily on self defence. It guides its practitioners towards their own personal development and improved personal well-being.

Inverclyde Academy is in the middle of a three-year programme to teach youngsters the basics of rugby union after being chosen as a ‘school of rugby’ by the Scottish Rugby Union. PE teacher Chloe Halvin says that as well as helping to grow the game at the school, the project has offered senior pupils the chance to earn qualifications, life skills and important experiences.

The 2024/25 season might only be a month in the memory but all eyes have moved on to the 2025/26 campaign kicking off in little over a month's time. Ton's Premier Sports Cup campaign kicks off with an away trip to Peterhead on Saturday, July 12 but attention will soon turn to their clash against Motherwell ten days later. The match at Fir Park has been chosen to be shown live on TV by broadcasters Premier Sports ten days later on July 22.

Having spent most of the season in the promotion places, Gary Fleming's men missed out after being overtaken by Threave Rovers in the final week of the campaign - with the Nock's 5-1 win at home to Lugar on the last day proving to be too little too late. But as the Tele reported last week, fears for the future of a rival club sparked hopes that, admittedly by default, the Ravenscraig side might make the step up after all.
