A 26-year-old man attended hospital for treatment after the incident in Captain Street on Monday, May 12. Police say the incident happened at around 1.35pm. Officers say they want to track down a man who is described as white, in his 20s and wearing dark clothing, in connection with the attack. Detective Sergeant Stewart Morrison said: “Enquiries to establish the full circumstances are ongoing and we are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident to contact us.

Mr Roach served as a councillor in the area for 27 years, first on the old Inverclyde District Council and then on Inverclyde Council following local government reorganisation in the mid-1990s. He was also the area's Provost from 1999 until 2003.

Martin McCluskey has accused the Scottish Government of failing to fund essential work at the IRH building – and has warned they are running out of time to make the building fit for purpose. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHS GGC) promised in 2023 to install new cladding on the hospital building and to replace its windows. Health board bosses say a business case for the work was submitted to the Scottish Government in January but that a decision has yet to be made.
