    Statement from Assistant Commissioner Paula Hilman – Garda Eastern Region:Yesterday, Sunday 1st June 2025, shortly after 6.15pm, An Garda Síochána received multiple reports of shots fired in the Fairgreen Shopping Centre, Carlow. Gardaí responded to the scene and met a large number of people running from the shopping Centre. An unarmed uniform unit arriving at the scene observed the suspect exiting the shopping centre. The suspect discharged a firearm, a shotgun, into the air.

    Following Sunday evening’s events at Fairgreen Shopping Centre, the HSE Dublin and South East will offer psychosocial support services to members of the public in Carlow. Support staff will be available from 1pm to 5pm today, Monday, June 2, at County Buildings on Athy Road, Carlow, R93 E7R7. All those affected are encouraged to avail of the service.

    Gardaí in Carlow are continuing to investigate all circumstances surrounding the discharge of a firearm and the death of a man in his 20s following an incident at Fairgreen Shopping Centre, Carlow, on Sunday (June 1). The Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit has completed its examination and the area has been declared safe. The scene remains cordoned off while both the Garda Technical Bureau and the Office of the State Pathologist conduct examinations.
