The as-yet unidentified male was recovered from the water by Wexford RNLI volunteers just east of Raven Point and brought ashore. The alarm was raised by a local fisherman who noticed something floating off the bar buoy. It is understood that the deceased had been in the water for some time and specialised efforts would be required to identify him. The remains were taken to University Hospital Waterford, where a full post-mortem examination was due to take place.

The lifeboat was visible heading out into Wexford Harbour shortly after 2 p.m. as locals enjoyed the sunshine on Wexford quay. They were quickly joined by the Coast Guard Rescue 117 helicopter which hovered around the harbour, before later landing in the Curracloe area. Early reports suggest that the RNLI crew recovered a body from the water shortly before 3 p.m. just outside Wexford Harbour. They quickly returned to base.
