SMU still has quite a bit to play for with the at large conversations right now for the CFP. I think they come out with a purpose and Cal doesn't have enough juice to consistently respond.

TD_24 - Twas close.......then it was all of a sudden not very close. Miami vs SMU would definitely be a salivating ACC title game. Christopher H - Miami's defense is still giving up huge plays on coverage busts and such, but they eventually pulled away in this one. TD_24 - Good for SMU to clinch that title game berth. Way to announce yourself to the college football world in your first year as a member of the ACC. Happy for them.

SMU is heading into Saturday’s game with a 10-1 record, and a #9 ranking from the College Football Playoff committee. Cal, on the other hand, has just clinched bowl eligibility (and at least they didn’t wait until the last week of the season to do so this time) and is probably just happy to be here. These two teams are facing wildly different expectations.

Advanced metrics say that Stanford has performed at an FCS level for most of the season, so it only makes sense that they get their act together now.

Listen, it’s Big Game week. Let’s just get this out of the way first: Stanford sucks. Am I going to get death threats for accurately evaluating their team’s talent level, the way I did for Florida State, Miami, and Pitt? Probably not. That’s just a numbers game; given that the American Psychological Association reports that , and Stanford has about 50 football fans max, I am probably safe. I also have trouble hating on Stanford these days. It used to come naturally to me.

Syracuse is led by first year head coach Fran Brown, the former defensive backs coach for the 2022 National Champion Georgia Bulldogs. This is Fran Brown’s first ever head coaching job, and he’s led the ‘Cuse to an admirable 6-3 record so far this season. That said, the dude gives me some strange vibes, and recently admitted that he can’t sleep in the same bed as his wife when the team loses, because he refuses to shower; showers are for winners.
