As I warned everyone in the game thread, don’t expect a win this series because the Tigers are mighty (and the best team in Major League Baseball right now). The White Sox as a whole had a game full of woes and lost spectacularly. At least it wasn’t a shutout, right? Jonathan Cannon started off battling 3-0 to strike Parker Meadows out, but the first hit came quickly with a single from Gleyber Torres.

A sweep? We don’t know her! The White Sox avoided a sweep in a blowout against the Mets for the afternoon matinee. The Sox struck first in Queens. It started with a one-out walk to Mike Tauchman, followed by a double from Miguel Vargas. AdvertisementAndrew Benintendi sent both runners home with a single to right. Brandon Nimmo got a one-out hit at the bottom of the frame, and Pete Alonso got plunked on the elbow with two outs.

Both teams are also trying to avoid the pending rain that is arriving in the city tonight, so a matinee game has been scheduled instead. Shane Smith will get the start today. Smith owns a cool 2.36 ERA, despite being 1-3. Korey Lee is back in the lineup as catcher after spending time in Charlotte rehabbing an injury.

Throughout April, the Mets were red-hot, but May has leveled out for the team, with a few players, including one newly-acquired player who you might have heard of, Juan Soto, in a bit of a slump. The pitching matchups for this series are mostly even, so hopefully the White Sox bats will wake up and take advantage.

Geoff Stellfox/Getty Images The White Sox struck early and maintained the lead for the rest of the night, as it turns out that even a good Rangers pitcher is no match for the Friday night City Connects power. Yes, the White Sox are 4-0 on Friday nights at home. Sean Burke started the game by giving up a walk to Sam Haggerty, then back-to-back strikeouts. Josh Jung drew a walk to add a little drama for old friend Jake Burger, but Burke got Burger to strike out swinging.
