Abigail Dean/Getty Images Shane Smith dominated the Marlins through six innings, but a sleepy offense and ice-cold bullpen ruined the fun. The White Sox lost game two, effectively ending Pope Weekend a day early. Xavier Edwards started the game for the Marlins with a single, and after a wild pitch and a ground out, he made his way to third. Unfortunately for him, Shane Smith was not messing around and struck out the next two batters.

Michael Reaves/Getty Images If you haven’t heard, or bypassed the cover photo, Tim Elko makes his major league debut tonight for the White Sox. Perhaps it was an act of God, because the new Holy man, Pope Leo XIV, was impatiently waiting to see the young slugger. Does the Vatican have CHSN? Who knows. Steve Snowden/Getty Images With news of Chet Lemon’s passing on Thursday, our Mark Liptak was in touch quickly from the road, taking time out of his broadcasting work to share his interview with Chet from 2004. Starting for the Barons, Jake Palisch was nothing short of masterful. The righthander, signed as a free agent out of Texas A&M by the Sox in 2022 and making his first start of the year, carved through the Clingstones' lineup with surgical precision.

Matt Dirksen/Getty Images As a general rule, when you lose a baseball game by 10 runs, there wasn’t really a defining moment. But in this case, there kind of was. Coming into today, the White Sox had lost the first three games of the series in Kansas City by a total of 9-4, never so far out of the games that the situation was hopeless. Well, until the end, anyway. And even this one was close until a series of events in the fifth inning.
