Rebilas-Imagn Images Nashville Sounds 14, Charlotte Knights 11 (Gameday box) (Statcast box)It was a slugfest in Charlotte (7-14) on Sunday to cap off the series against the Sounds (12-8) — with 13 home runs blasted between both teams. Nashville, after getting off to a huge early lead, held on to win the game, 14-11. The Sounds wasted no time teeing off on Knights starter, Chris Rodriguez. The first six Nashville batters ended up scoring off of a walk, a single, and four extra-base hits.

The results were essentially a three-way tie ... not a bad thing at all, for a team in need of improvements from Player 1 to 26: With “full” control over both Smith and Meidroth, whose service-time clocks started in 2025 and 2026, such immediate success bodes nicely for the foundation the White Sox are trying to build.

He gave up one run in each inning he appeared in (four), and two of the four runs were scored off of home runs. Iriarte also walked three batters while striking out five, and accounted for a wild pitch and a balk.

Every year since 2004, Major League Baseball has made April 15 Jackie Robinson Day. For those that somehow don’t know, Jackie became the first African-American player in MLB by breaking the color barrier on April 15, 1947. Earlier this year, the Department of Defense deleted the post on its website that honored Jackie’s military history while cleaning out all “DEI” topics on the site.

By no means did I think they’d be particularly watchable in 2025, but I did suspect that we’d see enough positive flashes from a fresh roster of young players to make it at least a little more worthwhile. I still do think that. We’re about 1/15th of the way through a long season.

Chicago Tribune 1900Deaf and mute player Billy Hoy signed with the White Sox after a 12-year career starring in the American Association, National League and Players’ League. He played just two years with the White Sox, including their pennant-winning debut in the American League in 1901, when at age 39 he put up a 4.2 WAR season (third on the team and tops among position players). He also hit the first grand slam in AL history.
