The data used in this study were from the FNIH OA Biomarkers Consortium project, a nested case-control study of knee OA progression biomarkers, within the Osteoarthritis Initiative (OAI) [3]. The OAI was measured in a longitudinal cohort (4,796 men and women aged 45–79 years) at the onset and/or progression of knee OA. Imaging of both knees of participants, blood and urine specimens, and clinical data from both knees of the participants were obtained at baseline and annual follow-up.
