I’ve always loved a good road trip, and what better reason for an outing than book research? As a kid, one of my favorite class field trips involved going to San Francisco and visiting the fortune cookie factory there. When I started writing the Magical Fortune Cookie series, I knew it was time for a return visit. Golden Gate Fortune Cookie Factory is located in San Francisco’s historic Chinatown and tucked inside Ross Alley. The place is family-run and celebrated its sixtieth anniversary in 2022.

Some people binge-eat Doritos or binge-watch Netflix when they’re stressed out. Me? I binge-read books with kick-ass heroes. Not superheroes, mind you, but regular guys who don’t need a mask and cape to fight evil. When I was writing my debut thriller Multo (meaning ghost in Tagalog), I also picked an ordinary character whose job and sense of justice compel him to kick ass.

I based her in large part on many of the pretty terrific, pretty cool real life woman journalists that I have worked with myself over the years in the New York City media world.
