AdventHealth Waterman will soon expand emergency care access in Lake County with the construction of a new free-standing emergency department in Fruitland Park. Army Staff Sergeant Juan “Alejo” Amaris, a double amputee and combat-wounded veteran, will be honored on Saturday, May 17 as the 2025 recipient of a custom-adapted motorcycle through VetFest Lake County’s Harleys for Heroes Ride. A retired U.S. Army Staff Sergeant, Amaris served 10 years and completed two tours in Iraq between 2003 and 2006. On July 20, 2006, while stationed in Mosul, Iraq, he was severely injured by an explosion during his second deployment.
