I spend an hour or more on most Saturday mornings packing up the recyclables and hauling them to the local dump (no pickup in my town). There watchful employees of the waste management company that runs it make sure that bottles, cans and paper are dropped in the right bin. So a fair amount of time and effort expended. That's one small reason why it is disheartening to learn that only 21% of the reusable waste generated by U.S. households is actually recycled.

Taylor Swift's ballyhooed 'Eras Tour" movie may be be falling slightly short of the $100 million box-office opening it was aiming for, but it's close at $95 million-$97 million, The Hollywood Reporter estimates. However, distributor AMC Theaters is not giving the usual Sunday morning read on weekend receipts until Monday, the Reporter said. "Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour" has opened at almost 4,000 U.S. movie theaters.

In the summer of 1977, the serial killings of "Son of Sam" had New York City on edge, a massive blackout turned the city that never sleeps dark, looters roamed the streets and then Elvis died. Through all the tension and turmoil, a man with an Australian accent roamed a newsroom on South Street in Manhattan in rolled-up shirtsleeves doing what he has been said to love best -- putting out a newspaper. The newspaper was the New York Post (founded by Alexander Hamilton in 1801).

The Garden State will have a healthy contingent onstage at the GOP debate in MilwaukeeCiro ScottiFox debate moderators Martha MacCallum and Bret Baier and former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie have a lot in common — at least on paper. Both MacCallum and Christie are about the same age — MacCallum is 59, Christie is 61. Baier is younger, at 53. MacCallum and Christie grew up about 17 miles from one another in New Jersey: MacCallum in Wycoff, Christie in Livingston.
