The House of Commons Library has today updated its research briefing examining the financial (minimum income) requirement for UK partner visas. You can read a full copy of the briefing online below and you can download the original 27-page PDF file here. The minimum income requirement mandates that British citizens or permanent residents must demonstrate an annual income of at least £29,000 to sponsor a foreign spouse or partner.

A new briefing paper was published yesterday by the House of Commons Library outlining the UK's agreements with other countries that enable the return of migrants. As the Commons Library explains, the UK currently has known returns agreements with 24 countries. The briefing paper lists each one, and it also lists previous agreements that are no longer in place.

The House of Commons Library has updated its helpful briefing on the 'no recourse to public funds' (NRPF) policy. You can read a full copy of the briefing below, and you can download the original 20-page document here. As the briefing explains, NRPF is a condition imposed on certain people subject to immigration control to restrict their access to benefits and other public funds. The briefing provides a concise and factual overview of the policy.

E-petition 648577 calls for the Government to create a visa scheme for “Palestinian individuals affected by war, to be allowed into the UK. Just like we did for Ukraine”. The petition closed on 18 April 2024 with over 100,000 signatures. The Government’s response to the petition, issued in December 2023, said there were no plans to introduce a special visa scheme. It pointed to existing visa routes, in particular for immediate family members of British citizens and permanent residents.
