Two hundred and ninety-eight, the number of times I declared ‘I’ve had enough of these two”, while reading Talking at Night. Okay, slight exaggeration. Now, you might think that statement alone means that I didn’t like this book, but nothing could be further from the truth actually. It is beautiful. Will and Rosie meet as teenagers. They’re opposites in every way.She overthinks everything; he is her twin brother’s wild and unpredictable friend.

Where is it? The shores of Loch Long, near Dunoon; more specifically a pebble beach that is often deserted and strewn with seaweed, driftwood and barnacled rocks. To the left, the Arrochar Alps rise into the sky, and a pine forest cloaks the green hills that roll across the water. It is quiet, and still, and sometimes the water is broken by the harbour porpoise, rising to the surface. Why do you go there?
