TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Area residents on Wednesday will have the opportunity to support local organizations that serve the Shawnee, Douglas and Jefferson county communities. Organizers are hoping to raise $40,000 on Wednesday -- up $5,000 from the $35,000 that was raised last year. As of around 10 p.m. Wednesday, a total of $23,057.22 had been received. UWKV’s Angel Romero visited Eye on NE Kansas to share why the money raised is so important.

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - The Topeka Passport program kicked off this week, inviting you to get to know the capital city this summer. The passport invites kids to visit 14 attractions across the city. You can pick up a copy of your passport from any participating attraction listed. The participating attractions include:You’ll receive a unique stamp while visiting each designated location. TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Heritage Hall was originally built as a shelter house in 1920. In the 80s, local leaders saw potential for something more. “They came in and put the stage in, put bathrooms and concrete floors, doors, windows,” Stormont Vail Event Center Operations Manager Matt Rockers said. To complete the project, they needed a little help from the people of Topeka.

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - The Epsilon Psi Sigma chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho made a splash at their annual Swim 1922 program Sunday, June 1. “Our goal is to teach as many children as we possibly can to be water safe so that they won’t be afraid and maybe the can help themselves and help others,” Sorority President Rosalyn Carr said. The event taught kids how to float, hold their breath and swim safely. Carr says they hope these skills make a lasting impact.

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Two local churches exchanged locations, a switch that benefited both in the end. Topeka Baptist Church and Light of the World Christian Center (LOTW) had their first services in their new buildings last Sunday, May 25. LOTW had been having services at 3301 SW Gage for over two decades. Currently, with a smaller congregation and the high expenses of a larger building they sought to find a new space to call home.
