Stolen guns have been recovered and youths were sent to a juvenile detention facility following a recent rash of auto break-ins. Vehicles in the City of Greenwood and Greenwood County were broken into during the first full week of May, according to Greenwood Police Chief TJ Chaudoin. “Three guys were getting out of a car and walking neighborhoods, checking for cars that’s unlocked,” Chaudoin said. “A girl drove off and would come back around and pick them up.

The 58th South Carolina Festival of Flowers kicked off its annual Ladies’ Luncheon on Wednesday with some big news: a South Carolina Festival of Flowers scholarship has been created, in partnership with the Piedmont Technical College Foundation. Trentsie Williams, Greenwood Chamber of Commerce president and chief executive officer announced the first scholarship will be awarded this fall. Applications are being accepted.

Earlier this spring, Uptown Greenwood launched two cinematic experiences, with the help of community sponsors:Popcorn in the Park, a free, quarterly family movie night under the stars, in a local park, with free popcorn; andMovie @ The Market, at 220 Maxwell Ave.’s open-air pavilion. Free market movies are the third Thursday of the month through October.
