The stepmother and uncle of Sara Sharif will not give evidence in their defence during their trial for the 10-year-old’s murder. At the Old Bailey, Mr Justice Cavanagh asked if each of the defendants’ barristers had advised their clients that the “jury may draw such inference as is proper” from their failure to do so, and they confirmed they had.

The father of Sara Sharif has denied that he deliberately destroyed phone evidence after the girl was found dead with multiple injuries at the family home. Urfan Sharif was questioned at his trial at the Old Bailey as to why none of the relatives had brought their phones back from Pakistan, where they travelled to the day after 10-year-old Sara died. Prosecutor Bill Emlyn Jones KC said the jury had been “denied the treasure trove” of messages, photos and videos.

A woman accused of killing 10-year-old Sara Sharif had told her sister the girl was an "innocent soul" who needed love, a court heard. Sara's stepmother, Beinash Batool, also said Sara's father, Urfan Sharif, had beaten up his daughter as she had been “naughty”, jurors at the Old Bailey were told. She sent the Whatsapp messages in 2022 - months before Sara’s body was found with dozens of injuries at her family home in Woking on 10 August last year.

A neighbour of Sara Sharif who tried to inquire about "screaming" coming from inside the 10-year-old's home had the door shut in her face, a court was told. Rebecca Spencer, who lived in a flat above the Sharif's previous family home in West Byfleet, said she had also heard "constant crying" and "banging" which on one occasion had reached "fever pitch". Ms Spencer told jurors she had gone to the address and asked if everything was OK.
