Isle of Wight Foundation grants over £40,000 to support four community projects

The projects chosen include two aimed at making music, one teaching confidence through the medium of radio and a fourth supplying a community minibus for a whole host of groups.

A road on a popular through-route in Ryde is set to be improved this month (September) and motorists are being advised of diversions that will be in place. Argyll Street will be closed to through traffic between Argyll Place and West Street for a period of ten days from 9th September 2024 for highway reconstruction work by Island Roads.

Maintenance works to the Ryde Pier entrance will affect access to evening ferry services over four nights in September. The works will take place between 7pm and 5am from Monday 2nd to Wednesday 4th September and between 8pm and 5am on Thursday 5th September. Scheduled to avoid main holiday seasonIsland Roads has scheduled the work to avoid both the main holiday season and also the Network Rail maintenance work which will see train services suspended from Friday 6th September until May 2025.
Island Roads postpones Sandown excavations citing adverse weather conditions

After careful consideration, works that were due to start at Lake Hill and Broadway, Sandown next week have been postponed due to the current weather being experienced as well as the predicted weather forecast. The decision has been taken in order to prevent delays to work on site which would have potentially had a corresponding impact on local residents should the work period need to be extended.

Ability Dogs 4 Young People, the charity that has been training assistance dogs for people with disabilities on the Island since 2012, has unveiled important new features at its Lake HQ. Thanks to an £8,500 grant from the Isle of Wight Foundation, the charitable body made up of the partners behind Island Roads, Ability Dogs 4 Young People now has a brand new “dog” kitchen.

Innovative Physics Limited has been accredited as a Living Wage Employer – a voluntary benchmark for employers that wish to ensure their staff earn a wage they can live on, not just the government minimum. Independent Living Centre on the Isle of Wight to close due to funding shortage

The hugely popular Independent Living Centre, run by local charity People Matter IW, is to close at the end of March due to a lack of funding. The Centre, which is based on the Riverway Industrial Estate, has been supporting people of all ages who want to continue to live independently; providing them with a detailed assessment of their needs and the opportunity to discuss, view, and try a range of quality equipment, aids, and adaptations for daily living.
