The first measurements of a pioneering environmental baselining pilot for agriculture start this month, with 170 farms from across England, Scotland and Wales chosen to take part. The project, which aims to measure the environmental impact of farms across Great Britain, is being led by the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB), with support from Quality Meat Scotland (QMS).

The announcement was made at the National Pig Awards in London yesterday (Monday, November 18). Sponsored by the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB), the prestigious accolade is given to an individual or organisation that has made an outstanding impact on the pork sector through their work.

New insights from an industry wide BTV-3 impact survey, along with recent clinical research by the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA), reveal substantial challenges for UK livestock farmers. As part of her Budget, Chancellor, Rachel Reeves redefined agricultural funding for the devolved nations using the Barnett formula, rather than maintaining a separate, ring-faced allocation as has historically been the case.
