    Fertiliser prices are showing an “upward trend for 2025” which will squeeze farmers’ buying power, according to a new report. The Rabobank report warns that the global fertiliser market is expected to face “another challenging year in 2025” – particularly for nitrogen and phosphate-based fertilisers. The report also details that over the past 18 months the global urea market has been “highly reactive” to the Indian market’s movement in purchasing fertilisers.

    Inland Fisheries Ireland (IFI) has today (Wednesday, April 23) confirmed two separate prosecutions against a wind farm and a plant hire company for the pollution of a river in Co. Leitrim. The IFI said both pollution incidents occurred within the Bonet River and Belhavel Lough catchment in Co. Leitrim. According to the IFI the specific location of the incidents was at Lisnagowan. One of the incidents involved Tullynamoyle Windfarm 5 Ltd in January 2024.

    There was heavy rainfall in most parts of the country over the weekend, though it has not affected grazing conditions and will hopefully improve grass growth on farms. Grass growth has been slow on most farms this spring but has picked up in recent weeks, with grass growing at a rate of 35-50kg dry matter (DM)/ha/day last week, according to PastureBase Ireland.

    A farming firm has been prosecuted by Inland Fisheries Ireland (IFI) for the pollution of a river in Co. Mayo. IFI said today (Tuesday, April 22) that it welcomed the ruling delivered at Ballina District Court that Gilvarry Farming Limited had caused silage effluent to flow into a tributary of the Cloonaghmore River.
