    Two men have been found guilty of chopping down the Sycamore Gap tree in what prosecutors called a “deliberate and mindless act of destruction”. Daniel Graham and Adam Carruthers were each convicted on two counts of criminal damage at Newcastle Crown Court, including the damage caused when the tree fell onto part of Hadrian’s Wall. Both men were remanded in custody until they’re sentenced in July. We were in court.

The video was taken from a phone belonging to Daniel Graham – who together with Adam Carruthers is accused of criminal damage to the tree and Hadrian’s Wall, which is a UNESCO world heritage site. Both men have denied the charges.

    Data obtained by Channel 4 News shows water companies across the country appear to be illegally using emergency overflows to discharge sewage into rivers and seas. There are more than 6,000 of them in England and Wales – which regulators say shouldn’t be used more than once a year. But figures show that some are pumping out sewage more than 100 times. The government has vowed to take action against water company bosses unless this kind of behaviour is stopped.
