The government says it’s a first step towards their pledge to halve violence against women and girls within a decade. Under a new Home Office pilot scheme, hundreds of Domestic Abuse Protection Orders have already been granted, which would see abusers jailed for up to five years if they breach the conditions. Greater Manchester Police has been carrying out one of the pilot schemes, and this programme has been given exclusive access to see how it’s been getting on.

Prosecutors have charged a man after a car collided with crowds celebrating Liverpool’s league title. Paul Doyle of Liverpool has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent, dangerous driving and other offences. Seven people remain in hospital following the collision on Monday evening.

The Prime Minister has been in Liverpool this afternoon, where he met local leaders. Detectives in the city have been granted more time to question a suspect after the collision at Monday’s Premier League victory parade. At least 79 people were injured after a car ploughed into the crowds. Seven people remain in hospital in a stable condition.

It was all over in seconds but the incident in Liverpool – a car ramming through a crowd gathered at yesterday’s Premier League trophy parade – left 65 people injured. The questions about whether authorities could have prevented yesterday’s collision will doubtless continue for days and weeks to come. Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer said the whole country stands with the city and thanked first responders. Police are continuing to question the suspected driver of the car.
