Ann Arbor residents passed Proposal 1 with 64% of the vote, securing approval for the renewal and restoration of the Washtenaw County Enhanced Emergency Communication System millage. The proposal will increase the property tax rate by 0.200 mills from 2026 to 2035 and is estimated to raise $4,493,654 if levied. The funding will support the potential construction of new towers and renovation of existing radio-system infrastructure, upgrade 911 phone equipment and pay for maintenance and user fees.

Washtenaw County voters approved Proposal 3 with 57% of the vote Wednesday morning. The proposal, which establishes an older persons services millage, will increase the property tax rate by 0.50 mill from 2024 to 2031. The millage is estimated to raise more than $11 million in 2024. The funding raised by the millage will be allocated to activities and services for persons age 60 and older in Washtenaw County.

University of Michigan football helmets and banners adorned the walls of the School of Kinesiology’s atrium on Friday for the 2024 Michigan Sport Business Conference. About 1,100 U-M students, alumni and sports professionals from the marketing, business and fashion industries across the nation gathered to share sports and business knowledge in a series of speeches and panel events. The 13th annual conference focused on sports in the streaming world, sports law and the evolution of women’s sports.

When customers walk into Detroit Street Filling Station, they’re greeted with potted plants hanging along the triangle-shaped patio, and they take seats at carved wood tables overlooking Kerrytown. The all-vegan restaurant has been a part of the Ann Arbor community since 2017 and occupies a former gas-filling station from the 1920s.

The Weiser Diplomacy Center hosted FBI Deputy Director Paul Abbate Tuesday afternoon for a conversation with Javed Ali, associate professor at the Ford School of Public Policy. The event explored the evolution of the FBI’s approach to safeguarding elections with local governments and enforcement agencies. Abbate also touched on increasing collaboration with international actors, including U.S. allies, in front of a crowd of about 50 U-M community members and former FBI employees.
