Transition metals encompass a class of elements vital to the basic functions of all living organisms. Many of the enzymes aiding in the production of energy in cells are dependent on these metals. A new study from researchers at the University of Michigan, California Institute of Technology and University of California, Los Angeles proposes that iron was the sole, original transition metal used by life for its various biological and metabolic functions.

The University of Michigan Central Student Government convened in the Michigan Union Wolverine Room Tuesday evening to pass resolutions regarding the ex-officio appointment process and a new Textbook Transparency Act focused on making course materials more accessible. The Assembly also heard the introduction of three new resolutions, covering policing transparency, academic programs and potential scholarships.

The University of Michigan Board of Regents voted Thursday to dismiss Nursing professor Robert Stephenson, ending his tenure. Stephenson has been placed on administrative leave since May 11, 2023, after allegations of sexual harassment of two of Stephenson’s former students first came to light in Feb. 2022. The University Equity, Civil Rights and Title IX office first found Stephenson to have violated the University’s sexual misconduct policy in Nov. 2023.
