NASHVILLE (BP) – A key figure in the Southern Baptist Convention’s investigation into the alleged mishandling of sexual abuse has died. Sources confirm to Baptist Press that Jennifer Lyell died late Saturday after a significant stroke. In 2018, Lyell told Baptist Press she had been sexually abused by Southern Baptist Theological Seminary professor David Sills while she was a student at the school.

CLEVELAND, Ga. (BP) – Truett McConnell University President Emir Caner has been placed on administrative leave following a special called meeting of TMU trustees Friday (June 6). The school, affiliated with Georgia Baptists, has been embroiled in controversy following allegations of sexual abuse against a former professor. A growing number of alumni and others associated with the university had been calling for trustees to take action.
