And he's right. When you drive the two wagons back to back, there is an immediate sense that the Audi is more agile. It felt sharper than the M5 in just about every section on the track, save for the straightaways, which favored the BMW. But even with less power, the RS 6 was ultimately the better thrill. Its V8 supplied ample power and included a fun growling soundtrack in every foot-down moment.

The EV4's side-by-side gauge and infotainment screen setup is a lot like what you'll find in other Kia models, and it's an interface that I like a lot. Apple CarPlay fires up without a hitch and there's no hassle switching between it and the native navigation system. Kia's tech suite continues to be one of the best. Will it succeed? The EV4 won’t blow your mind with outright performance or handling, but it successfully achieves all of the basics that an entry-level EV should.

Hyundai also nailed the ride quality on this SUV. The Calligraphy rides on 21-inch wheels, but the tires have a decent amount of sidewall for better cushioning. This, alongside great suspension tuning, means that the Ioniq 9 has a wonderfully soft ride, but it still feels connected to the road. It’s on par with luxury electric SUVs like the Mercedes-Benz EQS. Gotta pay for flagship styleWhile the three-row electric SUV segment continues to grow, most of the vehicles are still priced relatively high.

At the Edmunds test track, the Volvo ran to 60 mph in an admirable 4.5 seconds, beating the Kia EV9’s 4.7-second sprint. The EX90 then completed the quarter mile in 13.0 seconds at a speed of 104.7 mph, again better than the Kia, which did 13.3 seconds at 100 mph. Slowing down the 6,000-pound Volvo wasn’t too problematic either. It stopped from 60 mph in 121 feet, 3 feet better than the EV9 and 7 feet better than the Rivian R1S. Finally, on the skidpad, the EX90 registered 0.87 g.
