    Seniors from Hillsboro High School planning to further their education by enrolling at a university, college or trade school in the fall received early graduation presents this week. The Hillsboro Dollars for Scholars chapter awarded a record $133,900 in scholarships to 26 seniors during a one-hour presentation at the high school Wednesday morning.

    The Hillsboro School Board on Monday approved three staff resignations and discussed whether to walk back one of its spending cuts for the 2025-26 school year that the board signed off on in February. Hillsboro High School Principal Terry Baesler, transportation director Kevin Pirkl and high school math teacher Logan McAllister submitted resignation notices to the school board earlier this month.

    A former MayPort-CG High School science teacher and longtime wrestling, football and track coach who spent more than 50 years serving children and community members in his hometown has died. William “Bill” Bohnsack, a member of the Mayville City Council, passed away Thursday, May 1 at his home in Mayville following a prolonged battle with pancreatic cancer, according to an obituary prepared by his family. He was 78.

    The Traill County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday took a preliminary step toward asking voters in Traill County to consider adopting a home rule charter. County Commissioner Ken Nesvig of Buxton kicked off Tuesday’s discussion by tossing his support behind a move to home rule, which would grant the county government additional freedoms. Those freedoms could allow Traill County to establish a countywide sales tax and allow the county to convert some of its elected positions into appointed ones.
