    Mayville State men’s and women’s golf teams opened their 2025 spring season in a two-day invite hosted by Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell, S.D.The spring opening tournament was at the par-72 Lakeview Golf Course. “This will be our first real rounds outside since fall. The goal for this meet is to start sharpening up our short game,” Comets coach John Murphy said. The men’s team finished fifth out of eight in the field with a combined 44-over par.

    Mayville State baseball split a pair of North Star Athletic Association doubleheaders against Jamestown in games played April 6-7 in Sioux Falls, S.D.In Sunday’s games, head coach Billy Tomblin and the Comets (11-19 overall, 3-5 NSAA) won 5-3 in the first game but the Jimmies took the second game 19-7. On Monday, MSU again took the opener 4-2 and Jamestown won the second game 12-2. The Jimmies are receiving votes in the NAIA Top 25 Baseball Poll.

    GRAND FORKS – MayPort-CG sophomore Nora Braaten had a pair of top-five finishes at the Red River Valley Conference Indoor meet at the University of North Dakota April 4. The sprinter finished second in the 60-meter dash last Friday, crossing the line in 8.38 seconds, a personal best for the young runner. She joined sophomores Zoey Mehus, Ella Flaten and senior Kayla Knudsvig as part of the girls 4x300-meter relay, which took third at the meet in a time of 3:11.12.

    In a weekend series originally scheduled for its home field, Mayville State softball traveled to Dickinson State April 5-6 to continue North Star Athletic Association play. The Comets (6-27 overall, 0-8 NSAA) were swept 5-0 and 16-4 in their Saturday games and 10-1 and 7-0 in the Sunday games. “When you leave 24 runners on base over the weekend, strike out 33 times and give up 38 runs, you’re not going to win ball games,” Comets coach Jordan Olson said.
