WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - Wichita Trinity Academy has issued "Yondr bags" to students to prevent them from accessing their phones, earbuds or smartwatches during school hours. Trinity said students in grades 8-12 must place their cell phones, smartwatches and ear buds in these bags at the beginning of the day. The bag will lock and prevent the student from accessing their devices during school hours. At the end of the day, students will touch their bag to a base which will open the bag.

WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - A teen has been officially charged in connection to a shooting that took place near Exploration Place. The Wichita Police Department said 19-year-old D'Angelo Martinez has been charged with criminal discharge of a firearm stemming from the shooting. Bond has been set at $100,000. On August 4, 2024, police were called after gunfire was exchanged shortly before 12:30 a.m. between two groups males in their teens or early twenties.

WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - Demetrious carter has pled guilty to his role in a shooting that took place outside the Life Center Church near 11th and Oliver in June of 2023. The Wichita Police Department said one person was critically injured in the shooting after Carter was denied entrance to a funeral service. Police believe three guns were involved in the shooting. Carter pled guilty to two counts of aggravated endangerment of a child and faces 5 to 17 months in prison for each count.
