One of the most bizarre experiences I’ve ever had in this job was watching the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct a few months ago, and seeing a trailer for a game about kids exploring an island. After all this time?” and then thinking I must have been wrong when the game clearly showed itself to be a co-op title, something the series has never been before.

Puyo Puyo Tetris is one of those games that tells you basically everything you need to know just in the title. What is it? Well, it’s a fusion game that mashes up SEGA’s anime blob puzzler series with gaming’s most legendary block-dropping franchise. When your titles from the previous generation, on hardware known for being much weaker than the competition, were still the biggest games you’d ever created in those franchises, it’s rather hard to imagine them trying to outdo themselves on quantity. We don’t know yet how this is going to happen for the follow-up to Super Smash Bros.

After multiple teases throughout the show (including a fake-out where it was hinted that the game wasn’t ready to show yet), Resident Evil 9 (officially called Resident Evil: Requiem) was announced at Summer Game Fest, with a release date that’s way sooner than we would have expected: February 27, 2026. The cinematic trailer starts to introduce us to a new cast of characters, particularly focusing on FBI Agent Grace Ashcroft.
