Every Sunday afternoon during the academic year, a group of about 20 students from Columbia College, Barnard, and the School of General Studies meets on the fourth floor of Riverside Church. We gossip, pitch and recruit op-eds, and now, after a multi-year hiatus, operate as Spectator’s editorial board. Ever since I joined Spectator, the section’s mission has been deceptively simple: reflect and direct campus and community discourse.

My name is Colin Roedl. I am a junior at Columbia College and Spectator’s 148th editorial page editor. Like the rest of the world, I wield multiple identities at once—and though these identities differ from person to person, we are all tasked with determining how best to manage them. I balance being a student, an active voice in my community, a mentor, and a son every day.
