Scott announced his retirement as San Francisco chief of police Wednesday morning after eight years.     By Colleen ShalbyDaily PilotORANGE COUNTY, Calif. — More than two dozen people were rescued Saturday during a record-breaking heat wave as temperatures climbed to the high 90s in parts of Southern California. In Orange County, at least 15 people were rescued for heat-related issues throughout the day, according to Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Thanh Nguyen. That included a group of 11 people in distress who were rescued from one of the trails in Newport Coast, Nguyen said.

    After a brief but record-breaking heat wave over the weekend, a heavy marine layer is expected to move in, bringing much cooler temperatures — and even some light rain — to Southern California. Temperatures will drop more than 20 degrees by Monday, according to the National Weather Service. Highs along the beaches will be mild — hovering in the mid-60s — and the San Fernando and San Gabriel valleys will see highs around 70 degrees.
