Louth's All-Ireland SFC campaign got off to the worst possible start in Newbridge on Saturday night, after they were soundly beaten by neighbours Monaghan in the match in Newbridge 1-23 to 4-8. Coming off the back of their Provincial final win over Meath, this was never going to an easy assignment for Ger Brennan's team - and so it proved. Louth struggled from the early stages, giving away an early goal through the impressive Stephen O'Hanlon.

The Meath team for tomorrow's All-Ireland SFC opener against Cork has been named, and it shows two personnel changes from the side beaten by Louth in the recent Leinster Final. Coming in at left corner back for his first start of the year is Ronan Ryan, while Jordan Morris, who was introduced off the bench the last day after his comeback from injury, returns at right corner forward as an indirect replacement for Keith Curtis.

Camogie players will now have the option to choose to play in skorts or shorts after a motion was passed overwhelmingly in favour of the change at a special meeting at Croke Park on Thursday evening. It follows the recent standoff with the Camogie Association over what girls and women should be allowed wear during games. The rule change comes into effect immediately.

The public clock/hooter is set to be operational in every forthcoming All-Ireland senior football game, despite the previous policy of it only applying to TV or streamed matches. The GAA’s Central CCC have confirmed to the Irish Examiner, that this weekend’s Meath v Cork and Armagh v Derry matches will also be subject to the technology - originally they weren't. The clock/hooter was only in use for televised or streamed provincial matches due to logistical and financial reasons.
