    On Friday, the Fairfield School District announced the hiring of Mallory Mahon as the next principal of Fairfield High School, pending formal approval by the Board of Education. Mahon has 16 years of experience in educational roles. Previously, serving as a band director and coordinator of student services in the Fairfield Community School District. Throughout the search for a new principal, FCSD actively involved community members in the selection process.

During the traveling office hours, Iowans can ask her representatives questions regarding veterans’ benefits, social security, military affairs, immigration concerns, passports, and other federal services.

    Small nonfarm businesses in 43 Iowa counties and neighboring counties in Minnesota and Wisconsin are now eligible to apply for low‑interest federal disaster loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration. These loans offset economic losses because of reduced revenues caused by the state’s widespread drought.  In southeast Iowa, business owners in Washington, Jefferson, Keokuk, Louisa, and Mahaska counties can apply for an Economic Injury Disaster Loan.

    The Women’s Woodland Stewardship Network is hosting two events in May for women who are landowners. According to district forester Lisa  Louck with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, forestry experts will lead low-intensity walks through the woods while discussing woodland management, tree and plant identification, how to manage pollinators, wildlife and lumber, and more.
