I’ve been following the growing hype around ‘Extreme Day Trips’ for several years now. The concept is that you travel to and explore a new destination in under 24 hours. So when I saw the perfect flights to Dublin for under £27, I jumped at the chance to experience an Extreme Day Trip of my own. Despite some unexpected problems (I mean, what is even the shortest trip if it doesn’t have issues?), I had the most fantastic time. So much so that I’m already planning my second EDT for later in the year.

Having recently spent ten days in Sri Lanka, I crafted this itinerary covering the highlights of central and southern Sri Lanka. Exploring as much of Sri Lanka as possible in ten days means moving hotels a lot, which can quickly become tiring. I’ve therefore done my best to include two nights in the same place without compromising on the experience.

But, unlike other capitals, it’s not a place you’ll want to spend much time visiting. In fact, I recommend spending no more than two days in Colombo on a trip to Sri Lanka. The most popular airport in Sri Lanka is Bandaranaike International.
